PROJECT TITLE:

THE KENYAN COMMUNITY COVID-19 RESPONSE

AMOUNT REQUESTED: $ 6,000

Project Executive Summary

The  outbreak   of  new  corona  virus disease (COVID  19) is  causing  a respiratory  illness  worldwide  prompting  the   WHO  to declare  the  condition    as a global  pandemic. The  virus  has  spread    to more  than   35 countries, putting  the  world’s  economy  in  survival  mode,  the  outbreak  is  already  infecting  economies   and  financial  markets  around  the world. As  the  world  further  shuts  down  in the awake  of  the corona  virus  pandemic  countries  around  the  world  are  stepping  up  efforts  to tackle  the new  corona virus  that has  killed  thousands.

The Government  of  Kenya has  announced  various  measures  to  prevent  the  further  spread  of  corona virus,  but  it  has  failed  to  implement  those  measures to  prevent  corona  virus  to enter  in the country failing  to  quarantine all foreigners  and  Kenyans  who  jets  in  the  country  from  host  affected    countries  with COVID  19-.They  have  brought COVID – 19  in  Kenya and  right  now   we  have   more 3000  confirmed COVID-19  cases  in the  country  which  has  caused  panic  everywhere. Kenya is the leading the epicenter of COVID-19 infections in East and Central Africa.

Due  to  fast   spread    of  the  virus    in  the  country,  the  government  has  closed  schools  ,colleges  and  universities,  additional  to  this    it  has  closed  or  shutdown  all businesses  in the  markets,  where  millions  of poor  Kenyans  earn  their  daily  bread. And  their  livelihoods, The  president  of  Kenya  Uhuru  Kenyatta  has  implemented  a nationwide a few preventive  measures  to  curb  spread  of  COVID-19.This  is  an  unprecedented  situation  where  for  good  reason  the  government  has  instructed parts of the country to shutdown. Kenya  government  has  failed   to  offer  any financial  support  to those  poor  families living in lockdown subjecting them to much pains, suffering and deaths, many  will  die  of  hunger  rather   than  from   Coronavirus. Containment  strategies  such  as  market  closures is  more  debilitating  for  families  and  communities  who  have  lost  their  livelihoods  , have  no  food, money,  medicine  to sustain their  families   in  the crisis.

To meet the urgent needs of the communities and health systems we have shifted to curb the pandemic through educating our communities and supplying hand washing facilities, supplying farm seeds/farm tools and face masks to support the global response to the pandemic and full in gaps.Permaculture for Sustainable Communities (PFSC) is supporting Kenya Government in strengthening Response to the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. We are working with ministry of Health, Agriculture and Water to combat  COVID-19,to promote Permaculture farming for food security and to provide clean water to families disproportionately  impacted  by Coronavirus,  economic  and  food  security   consequence  of  the Covid-19  outbreak .The emergency of the Coronavirus has not only drawn the world`s attention to the needs for equitable systems particularly in accessing healthcare but it has also made it clear that access to basic public utilities such clean water, food security, saniation services and energy cannot be ignored.

The  Kenyan  Community  Covid-19  Response  Project  will  be  implemented  in  Matungu  District  ,Western  Kenya, working  with  community  that  is  disproportionately  impacted  by Coronavirus  and  economic  and  food  security   consequence  of  the Covid-19  outbreak .The population served is more than 200,000 people. The  project   target  the whole population   and  other high-risk  populations   who  are  experiencing  a  Covid-19  impact our  project  will  offer  solutions  of  shortcomings  and  health   and  well-being   problems  of  the  Coronavirus.

Considering  the  urgency  of  the   public  call  and  demand  for  this  proposals  ,our  project  stand  to   reduce to stop influx of   COVID -19,hunger,water scarcity and give hope to humanity who live under threat of COVID-19.Giving the communities the tools to protect the public is vital to saving lives-and to help mitigate the kind of economic and social damage that could make this crisis even more debilitating for families and communities.

Permaculture  For  Sustainable  Community as  implementing organization  request  funds  worth  & the  funds   was  to  cud  to  combat  the  COVID -19  through providing COVID-testing, providing preventive education and hand washing facilities, clean water, supply of farm seeds/tools and face masks to build resilient community and  stop the spread of COVID-19 in this community.

Health systems in the areas where we work have made impressive strides in recent years, but they remain extremely fragile.COVID-19 could push us to a breaking point. For thousands, that means no water, no food, no soap, poor nutrition, poor shelter, and limited health care.

To stop the spread of the Coronavirus and save live, our teams are working around the clock. We are partnering with local and national governments to set up COVID-19 community home care, promote Permaculture farming for food security, and clean water, sanitation and hygiene programs. We are also educating people about the COVID-19 and how to stop its spread via community outreach. Funding of $ 6,000 is urgently needed to scale up this work to meet growing demands.

Hand washing

Most  families, clinics, markets   lack  hand  washing  facilities  such  as  water  tank  ,ant-bacteria soap  and hand sanitizer  for COVID-19 prevention.

Avoid close contact

We  want  advise  our  people  to  avoid  close  contact  with  people  who  are  sick .To  put  distance  with  the  people   to  avoid  Covid-19  infections

Take  steps to protect  others. Stay  at  home  if  you  are  sick, to  avoid touching  eyes  ,nose  and  mouth  with  unwashed  hands  social distance

While  social  distance  helps  to  prevent  the  rampant  spreading of Covid-19 it can  result  in  loneliness, depression  and  anxiety, especially for  vulnerable  population  such  as children, women and elderly. We  want  to  offer  solution  through  supporting  them  to  start  small  gardening  (working  with  nature)  to   grow  their  own  food , vegetables  and  fruits and  herbs.

This program will handled our health community workers and ministry of Agriculture

Connecting  them  to  outside  would  through  giving  them  smart  and  FM   radios  ,TV   they  will  enable  them  to  rethink, good, healthy connected  and  loved. We  believe  in  empowering  and  educating  the   population  to   be  able  to  help  themselves  to  take  matters   into  their own  hands

This program will be handled by our electronic and computer technicians.
